The Wurzenhütte in Gschwandt in the Traunsee-Almtal region is a traditional, family-run inn, where a lot of warmth and hospitality can be felt. The house, founded in 1969, was recently taken over by Stefanie Guem in the 3rd generation.

The Gasthaus Wurzenhütte is idyllically located in the middle of the forest and invites you to linger with its cozy, rustic atmosphere. Enjoy the unique atmosphere of the forest and the untouched natural landscape on our terrace or take a seat in the cozy, natural wood dining room with around 60 seats.

It is particularly important to us that you feel comfortable in the Gasthaus Wurzenhütte. When you come to us from your hike on the Flachberg, you can expect genuine warmth and delicious dishes. Right to relax and recharge your batteries. Every guest is welcome - whether nature lovers, families with children or hikers.

How to get to the Wurzenhütte guesthouse in Gschwandt in the Traunsee-Almtal region:

We recommend travelling by public transport!

By train:
Take the Salzkammergutbahn (line 170) from Attnang-Puchheim station to Gmunden station, then take the Traunseetram (line 161) from Stern & Hafferl to the Gschwandt Rabesberg stop, also coming from Vorchdorf Eggenberg.

The stop is a short hike of about 45 minutes away from the Wurzenhütte inn.

Numerous connections from Attnang-Puchheim station to the main trains on the Westbahn line (line 101) or via Gmunden to the Salzkammergutbahn towards Bad Ischl, Hallstatt and Bad Aussee.

By bus:
OÖVV bus line 533 from Gmunden to Grünau im Almtal, Rabesberg Abzw. Flachberg stop.

The stop is a short hike of about 25 minutes away from the Wurzenhütte inn.

By bike:
The Wurzenhütte inn is also very easy to reach by bike.

The Traunviertel Tour passes Gschwandt, as do the R4 Traun Cycle Path and R 2 Salzkammergut Cycle Path coming from Gmunden. From Gmunden, follow the cycle path signs towards Gschwandt or Vorchdorf, via Unterm Wald to Gschwandt, then turn left towards Rabesberg (GH Rabl), cross the B120 and head uphill towards Flachberg until you reach the turn-off to the Wurzenhütte inn.

Approx. 30-40 minutes from Gmunden, depending on speed. From Gmunden (altitude 425 m) to GH Wurzenhütte (altitude 661 m), approx. 240 metres of elevation gain.

By car:
A1 motorway: From Munich/Salzburg or Vienna/Linz - Exit A1 Regau - B145 to Gmunden, also coming from Bad Ischl on the B145 - B120 eastern bypass towards Scharnstein or from Vorchdorf on the country road to the Baumgarten roundabout, continue on the B120 towards Scharnstein or coming from Scharnstein on the B120, Rabesberg - Flachberg junction, continue to the junction directly to the inn.

Parking:
Limited number of parking spaces at the inn.
